If you who want to pursue a degree within the graduate school of arts and sciences, you must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school or the international equivalent. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences offers the following degrees: the master of arts (AM), master of science (SM), master of engineering (ME), master of forest science (MFS) and the doctor of philosophy (PhD) in 57 divisions, departments, and committees, from African American studies to statistics, including 16 interfaculty programs.
GSAS confers the prestigious Harvard PhD across all disciplines. It is the only school at Harvard that confers the PhD. The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences was founded in 1872. As of 2011 there are 3,809 registered degree candidates across a variety of disciplines.
